John Singleton’s film, Boyz N the Hood, displays the challenging upbringing of adolescents who have to live with harsh conditions around not only their home but also their surrounding town. The film compares the differences between the lifestyles of Tre Styles and his friends’, Darren and Ricky Baker. Darren and Ricky are half-brothers who are nothing alike. Singleton demonstrates the importance of male leadership in a home in the ghetto of Los Angeles by comparing the difference between the lifestyles of Tre and his friends. While many adolescents in the hood have close friendships, some form close relationships by assembling gangs and create a world of violence due to alcohol abuse, which together ultimately breeds discrimination.
Our America is a book and a movie of the struggle in the Southside of Chicago. Even though, the main plot of the book and the movie was how two characters named Lealan and Lloyd find a way to broadcast their struggles in living in the Southside of Chicago. But, both the book and the movie have the main plot of Eric Morse’s death. Which happened in 1994, two boys Johnny and Tyrone threw a 5 year old boy named Eric out the window because they wanted him to steal candy and he didn’t and so Eric snitched on them. Our America: the book and the movie has similarities and differences such as the plot , character, and other things.

It starts out in basic training, with a young marine, nicknamed “Joker” for the joking attitude that he has towards the training, having his head shaved with the other marines. The basic training that follows is grueling and demanding, and many trainees are unable to keep. One such trainee is nicknamed “Private Pyle” after a dimwitted soldier from a TV show from that era.

World hunger has always been a problem that has plagued humanity, and through the years, it has remained an almost impossible problem to solve. However, industrialized agriculture has become a possible solution to world hunger with its ability to produce more food on less land than traditional methods. Industrialized agriculture is the solution Robert Paarlberg offers in his article, “Attention Whole Food Shoppers” which first appeared in April 2010 edition of Foreign Policy. Paarlberg attempts to use specific criteria to demonstrate the benefits of industrialized agriculture, such as its impacts on world hunger, the income gap, and global politics. Paarlberg was to an extent successful at proving his points and persuading his intended audience.

The Bully Project In the movie “The Bully Project” there were 4 students involved with bullying. Alex, TY (11), Kelby, Tyler (17) where all in evolved with bulling when they were in school. I thought that had the most impact was Tyler long committed suicide when he was in high school.one of the reasons was that kids hid his clothes and made him walk in the hallway fully naked. From the 4 major student I thought Tyler’s dad had the most impact on the reason why he dislikes bullying.
Churchill and/or Orwell once said that “[w]e sleep soundly in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would do us harm. ”(89 Junger). The quote appears in the book, WAR. This quote from the book, WAR, of the beginning of “Book Two: Killing”. The author, Sebastian Junger, reminds the reader that for citizens of any country to live safely, there will always be service members who stand like brick walls forming the outer layer to protect against invaders.
The Bad Kids uses an assortment of techniques to create a way to get the viewer emotional involved in the story. The techniques involved in the film are shots of the weather, the way voice overs are used, and the overall structure of each child’s conflict. The director’s purpose in using these techniques is to get the viewer to see that these kids, who have had a hard life, are largely victims of the circumstances that they were born into. These kids are just a few in a country and world where millions of kids are written off as “bad kids” that have nothing to offer to the world. The director shows that they have a story behind that label and that their stories continue even have people have written them off.
The comedic masterpiece City Slickers debuted in theaters in 1991. The brain child of Billy Crystal, who starred in and produced the movie, City Slickers tells the illustrious tale of three men going through crises of character. To relieve themselves of their pain to do some soul searching, the men enroll in a traditional western cattle drive. The lure of being cowboys lead them westward, where they face trial and leave with life affirming success. City Slickers’s comedy revolves around the stereotypical western lifestyle and the life lessons Mitch, Phil, and Ed learn are based in the Western ideal of individualism.
In 2004 the film “Motorcycle Diaries” was released depicting the motorcycle journey that Ernesto “Che” Guevara and Alberto Granado took throughout South America. This journey was important because it influenced Guevara’s political ideals and led to his involvement in the cuban revolution and his famous persona as “Che”. The Director Walter Salles understood the importance of the story and wanted to tell it in a less political more emotionally based light (Confluencia, pg.109.) Salles did a great deal of research over a span of three years for this film. He spoke with family members of Alberto and Ernesto, he followed the journey to find realistic shooting locations and studied asthma, leprosy and Inca history (Travelogue, pg16).

I defiantly enjoyed this class, it was a breath of fresh air from other classes and there were a lot of great movies shown. I really enjoyed the movies from this class; many of them were some that I have wanted to see but have never gotten the chance. Also, this class also gave me a lot of new movies that I now need to add to my long list of movies I would like to see. Some movies I especially liked were Fences, The Normal Heart, Singing in the Rain, and The 39 Steps. Out of those four I think that Fences is a movie that needs to be shown to future semesters.

The movie follows PVT Doss (Andrew Garfield), Sergeant Howell (Vince Vaughn) and Captain Glover (Sam Worthington) through the Battle of Okinawa, and the struggles PVT Doss had to overcome as a conscientious objector. “Hacksaw Ridge” was directed by Mel Gibson, produced by Tony Benedict, with screenplay by Andrew Knight. “Hacksaw Ridge” is a true story about U.S. Army Medic Private Desmond Doss, who saved the lives of 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa.

Quentin Tarantino 's Pulp Fiction is a mixture of a few different types of genres, it is considered a gangster movie but there are more layers to it than one genre, at the time when it was made it was an independent film (Indie Film), black comedy, Drama and a Thriller.
