First released in 2011 by Louis de Berneire and Kriv Standers, the “Aussie” yarn “Red Dog”, got many different awards some of these include; Best Film, Best Director (Kriv Standers), Best Screen play and many more. When the new man in town, Tommy, walks into the town pub, he sees a dog dying so out of pure curiosity he asks the question, why is this dog so special? The whole story begins. You will see many different vignettes about how Red Dog; saves many people’s lives, brings couples together and how one dog bring all of the many people of Pilbara together to become one big community. Other times include when the movie uses exaggeration, like in the tale about Old Nelson, the shark who loiterers in the waters surrounding the Town, Dampier, the story is told that he ended many people’s lives and continues to still to this day. Some other miner bits of exaggeration include, how humanlike Red Dog is, by supposedly listening to people when they are telling him a story, as to most people these characteristics in a dog are quite unusual. By using all of these different humour techniques like exaggeration, it transforms the movie “Red Dog” into a yarn, giving it a more ‘Aussie” feel. Not only does the setting set the mood of the movie but it may give you an idea of the characters in the film, for example, If the setting was a very classy, very expensive house, with everything luxurious about it you would think that the characters in the movie are going to have high expectations, maybe a bit stuck up.
