This would be a time of innovation, exploration, and economic prosperity. This would be a time where we claim space as our home. There should be an increased focus on space exploration and development as it has historically lead to technological innovations, can provide large amounts of resources we can use, and can provide solutions to problems we face on Earth.

Space exploration truly started in in the late 1950s with the Development of the Soviet Space Program and the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA), leading …show more content…

Historically, space exploration has caused development of new technologies that can end up being useful in everyday life. NASA calls these technologies “spinoffs” (NASA, 2014). A good example is Diabetic insulin pumps, as they are based on technology designed by NASA (Breigh, 2000). These pumps allow diabetics to live a more normal life, without having to take insulin shots. Another huge spinoff is the Hubble telescope. NASA’s work in the optics and sensors involved with Hubble has been able to revolutionize mammogram screening and imaging (Irvine Mott, 2005). These new technologies clearly not only work to better space exploration, but also benefit the common person …show more content…

Some of the problems we face today include overpopulation, global warming, preserving natural resources, and the need for clean, renewable energy. Overpopulation can be solved as space and other planetary settlements will allow us to expand and grow our population without worry of taking up too much space, since we would have the whole universe to expand. Global warming and the need for a clean renewable energy source can be solved by SBSP and its ability to provide more than enough energy to power everything on earth and potentially anything off earth (NSS, 2014). With the solution to clean renewable energy in hand, we would be infinitely closer to solving global warming by removing the heavy amounts of CO2 we release into the atmosphere simply from our energy needs. And with the surplus of natural resources we can obtain from different solar objects like asteroids or our moon, we can remove the need of harvesting resources from the Earth almost
