Technology has become a normal part of everyday life in society, to the point that society would not be able to function without it. As the technological revolution has occurred, humans have been able to exceed the boundaries of what was assumed was possible in many educational fields. One of these academic fields is psychology, and in particular neuropsychology. New technology is allowing psychologists to dispose of pen and paper test and therefore undertake neurological testing at a larger scale. This advancement in technology is also allowing the rollout of virtual reality and augmented reality programs that can more effectively treat patients for a variety of previously untreatable ailments. Psychology is my chosen major and I believe that without the technological advancements that have occurred in the previous few decades, this field would be nowhere near as advanced and not as capable as dealing with the necessary variety of disorders and disease. …show more content…
The up and coming technology in the realm of neuropsychology is allowing clinicians to “use various technologies to improve the efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of neuropsychological assessment” according to the US National Library of Medicine. This also means that many of the tests can be administered without the direct supervision of a clinician, which allows for patients to be diagnosed and treated faster. The increase in the use of technology also has many other benefits for neuropsychological testing. According to Laura Rabin the “advantages attributed to computerized methods (e.g., standardization, large-scale screening, measurement of performance attributes inaccessible by traditional means) enhance prospects for growth” in the industry and this means that now neuropsychological research will become easier and more efficient as this technology is more widely
