Final Essay

Recently debates over the cause of global warming have been discussed on social media and all over the news. Scientists have proved humans are to blame for global warming by studying greenhouse gases, dramatic change in precipitation, and rising sea levels. However, those who don’t believe in global warming often falsely accuse the occurrence on activities like solar flares. Rising levels of human produced gases released into the atmosphere create a greenhouse effect that traps heat and causes global warming. Greenhouse gases are gases that trap heat in the atmosphere. They include methane, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and fluorinated gases. According to NASA (2018), “Life on Earth depends on energy coming from the sun. About half the light reaching Earth's atmosphere passes through the air and clouds to the surface, where it is absorbed and then radiated upward in the form of infrared heat. About 90 percent of this heat is …show more content…

The two biggest causes of the sea levels rising are a thermal increase and the melting of glaciers and ice sheets. The oceans are absorbing more than 90% of the heat from the atmosphere caused by human emitted greenhouse gases. The increase in water from ice masses and the expansion due to heat in the ocean has caused the 2014 global sea level to be 2.6 inches above the 1993 average. That’s significant seeing as it was the highest level from since 1993 (NOAA, 2017). Also, according to NOAA (2017), sea level continues to rise at a rate of about one-eighth of an inch per year. Higher sea levels can lead to floods and destructive storm surges that push farther inland. Flooding is expected to be from 300 percent to 900 percent more common within U.S. coastal communities than it was only 50 years ago. The issue of man-caused global warming must be addressed and solved or else it will cause the destruction of many costal homes and towns because of the rising of the
