The Online Learning Consortium (OLC) is a significant organization within the field of instructional technology. Within my current position, the organization provides a key role in understanding the functions of online learning. Currently, I assist students throughout the state of Florida with information on online learning programs and provide them with the best options to fit their needs. I believe that understanding an organization such as the Online Learning Consortium will be very beneficial to my current career in higher education. Organizations such as the OLC are very important to my current job duties at the University of West Florida. As part of the Complete Florida program, I work with students throughout the state of Florida on returning to college to complete through degree online from 15 partner institutions. Being knowledgeable of online learning environments is a key role in my job duties. The concept of online learning was unfamiliar to me previous experiences in higher education. During my time in college, I completed my degrees in a physical classroom environment. Once I began working within higher education, I become more aware of online learners and the concerns and challenges they face on a daily basis. The OLC is a particular organization that interests me with assisting my students. The OLC is consistently performing research on new innovations and performance within the online learning community. The Online Learning Journal is the publication of the OLC and promotes the research practices found in online environments (OLC). In addition, the organization regularly hosts speaking engagements throughout the world by scholarly leaders. The topics range from improving the online classroom to enhancing the knowledge and use of digital courseware (OLC). The application of these two aspects is important to the growth of the OLC and presents a distinct feature that promotes expansion within the online learning
