Chapter 8: Asian and Pacific Island Americans. For, this final reflection paper I have decided to reflect back on chapter eight of our course materials: Asian and Pacific Island Americans. I have decided to do our last reflection on the Asian and Pacific Island Americans section simply for the fact for enjoying the rich culture of Asian and Pacific Islander Americans. In the book the statement, Asian Americans are viewed as the model minority; comes up frequently, helping to further the stereotype that Asians are smarter than others, are better behaved than others, and are better off than others. In another separate article, this was a focal point. The odds being ever against Asian American and Pacific Islanders, if they have experienced such discrimination; along with the level at which one may currently ethnically identify with may factor into the increased or decreased use of tobacco products. These cases of unfair treatment and discrimination, of course, are subject to the interpretation of the victims of the events which took place and the severity of the discriminatory acts. However, there is still evidence of a link between the two. Whether these findings be significant enough to report on or not, as the article points out, is up for discussion. Though there has been a common thread connected to the number of current smokers among the Asian American and Pacific Islanders minorities and the number of individuals which feel discriminated against within those groups the connection is up for debate
