My topic for my interviews was to learn about what study abroad programs are available for seniors that would be related to my major, Food Science. The second element I wanted to learn about was how study abroad experience may affect my future career opportunities. I found I prefer summarizing the key points of the answer next to the question on the agenda. I put bullet points for the key topics I find within the answer and can connect two answers that may connect similar questions’ answers with arrows. Extra questions I asked I wrote in the margins or at the end of the agenda. I was able to easily cross out any questions I did not ask or amend questions with a few words if necessary. Describe the communication that occurred in terms of depth, relationship, etc.
Donna’s interview was more conversational in that she knew more about me and what type of student I am in order to relate her answers. Based off the skills she knew I had and what companies I am interested in (such as Red Gold or ConAgra), she explained what those recruiters are looking for in study abroad experience and how I should present that experience to recruiters. My conversation with Kara Hartman did not have as established of a relationship; therefore it was polite and informational. The depth of interview was from being able to connect to my study abroad experience in France, which Ms. Hartman is a liaison for.
f. Describe any unforeseen problems that occurred and how you handled them.
The only issue that occurred was I ran out of questions for Ms. Hartman from my agenda of questions and had to come up with more questions on the spot to fill up time. Amplifying probes did not seem needed with the depth of her answers, so I expanded my interview topics with questions about other opportunities she knew of to study abroad outside of Purdue’s study abroad programs and if students had expectations from their first trip if they choose to study abroad a second
