Nayir is a main character from the novel Finding Nouf, written by Zoe Ferraris. His full name is Nayir ibn Suleiman ash-Shaeqi (84). The book didn’t seem to mention Nayir’s age but I imagine he is in his early twenties. He is a large man and people say he looks like a Bedouin, but he is actually a Palestinian (29 - 30). Nayir’s profession is as a desert guide for many wealthy families, such as the Shrawis (3). He jokes by saying that what he has learned about women is from the Quran, rumors, and bootleg television shows (75). He believes that women should follow the rules for them in the Quran for modesty and protection (81 - 82). At the beginning of the novel, Nayir seems to be an uptight and extremely traditional. Throughout the novel he seems to become more relaxed. Examples of this is: when he bought a coat (91 - 92) and looking at and talking to women with their faces exposed (150, 213, 219, 247 - 248, 274). I think Nayir is an admirable character because he always tries to what is right and just. My opinion of Nayir doesn’t really change a lot throughout the novel. He does seem to become more relaxed by the end of the novel compared to what he was like at the beginning. I would say that he was very tensed and awkward at the beginning. At the end he was more comfortable, especially around women. I think Nayir would make a great friend. He is a loyal, honest, and kind hearted
