People who decide on working in the field of being in the emergency services such as Fire Fighters, Emergency Technicians and in Law Enforcement Officers give their lives to their community. They serve the interests and protection of the community in a complex and involving conflict and crisis. However, the same people who they protect and serve demoralize them. Because of those who choose this profession, they are dedicated to make a difference in others’ lives. Each of these public services has received an education in their desired career. Each one is ready and able to lay down their own life for others.

The job is dangerous and could be possibly be fatal with an average of hundred firefighters dying per year. However, since they perform a public service they even have the chance to save lives. Often enough when they arrive on the scene of accidents they provide stabilization and scene safety. Firefighters might specialize in areas such as forest fires or hazardous materials cleanup, but they are able to work in a range of other settings, too. When not responding to emergencies, firefighters often maintain equipment, research firefighting techniques and provide public education on fire prevention. As a firefighter, you can expect to spend a lot of time at a fire station and have to work long and irregular hours most usually work on a twenty-four hour shift. Fires and other emergencies can occur at any time, so firefighters are always on call. Work can be highly dangerous, especially due to building collapses, burns and exposure to chemicals. Education requirement to become a firefighter is to obtain state certifications through an academy or receive their training from a college. They work with police officers and firefighters in a range of situations. They have varied tasks and need a wealth of knowledge to remain calm in stressful environments. Paramedics are the highest level of emergency medical technicians. They have completed the most training and have the most experience of all EMT personnel. Thus, they are able to provide a greater level of care than other EMTs. For example, while all EMT personnel provide care and transport to patients in emergency medical situations, paramedics are certified to perform additional duties, such as administer medication and fluids. They use complex equipment to diagnose a patient's medical situation and provide the best care possible. All states require certification for EMTs and paramedics. They learn about anatomy, pharmacology, training in medical emergencies, and training in trauma emergencies, driving, and practices and hone their skills through hands-on experiences. They often work in ambulances but can be part of a helicopter flight crew. Work schedules can be hectic with either career choice, but both come with the pride of performing a civic service. This can all add up to a challenging and rewarding career but not one without the pitfalls of high stress, above average injury rates and few opportunities to advance within the
