The Crusades were one of the first major Holy Wars in history, and they did not go well and ended with major unchristian- like actions that took place. In the 1st crusade they set out to take back Jerusalem, and they succeeded at the cost of thousands of Jews and Christians lives that were killed in the recapturing of Jerusalem. Also in the 4th crusade the crusaders sacked Constantinople, one of the largest Christian cities. They killed millions of Christians in this city when their original plan was to save Christians from the Muslims. This crusade also caused division between Greek Orthodox and Roman Catholic that could never be restored. So I firmly believe Christians should not bear the sword for three major reasons. Romans 13:1 says “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God”. This just confirms the statement that God is in control, and he has his people to protect us. Christians should not focus on war because that is what the government is for. Christ-followers should put all their time into spreading the Word, and let those in leadership bear the sword. What Christians can do if they think a situation needs to be dealt with the best thing they can do is pray. They can pray for their government to have clear thoughts on what they should do, and they can put the situation in God’s hands, and he will do the rest. If Christians were to go to war that would show that their faith is not strong enough to believe Jesus will take care of them, so by not going to war they are showing that their faith is strong. Anyone with a leadership role has been anointed by God, so if a situation needs to be dealt with properly he will use them, but Christians can still be involved in the situation, but not forcefully, spiritually through
