Our brains can only process so much information at a time. These mental shortcuts and biases makes it easier for our brain to take in informationprocess information. However, when we use these shortcuts and biases, we increase our chance of making wrong decisions and conclusions. It will be helpful for you to know each of these. So if you think that by wearing your lucky shirt, you’ll get lucky, think again. Next, we have overconfidence. This is our tendency to overestimate our skills, knowledge, and judgment. In many instances, we think that we are right when we are not. We are overconfident because we fail to realize how little we know about things. Another reason is that information that we have comes from unreliable sources. Can you think of other situations in which you have been too confident about your own opinions, decisions, and judgment? Another bias that we have is Hindsight Bias. Hindsight Bias operates when people say “I knew it all along!” We do this when after an event has happened, we imagine instances that make us think that we already know it is going to happen. For example, your favorite boxer lost to his opponent in an important fight. After the match, you told your friend that you knew it was going to happen. This is Hindsight Bias.
