Blessed Be is a form of greeting where you wish good things and good luck upon others as per beliefs of many faiths. Like Christians say “God Bless You” or Muslims say “Salaam” or Jews say “Shalom”, many modern Wiccan practitioners like to use it in similar way. However in Wicca and NeoPagan faiths, Blessed Be originally holds a very sacred place as it comes from the “Five Fold Kiss Ritual” by Gerald Gardener in his Book Of Shadows. It has been used in many religions to grant the blessings of the deity onto the hearer. Basically, the speaker is asking the powers to invoke the persons with their blessings. Here invoking, as discussed before means to imbue the person or enter into a person or become one with the person, thus taking this term …show more content…
Since invoking is a very intimate process and asks the Deity to imbue/enter into/become one with the person, thus speaking it lightly without knowing its sacred purpose is not suggested. This is so because the energy and power of this term weakens with casual use. -In Rituals, Blessed Be either acts as introductory role (as in when opening a group ritual) or as conclusion (as in concluding the group ritual) where it implies giving your blessings and giving the best to everyone in the circle. In my personal practices, I would be using Blessed Be for the purposes of rituals only when I am asking for the Divine/Deity to bless me, the spell, the ritual, or any other person. In Magic Circle School, I would be using Blessed Be during school rituals to indicate that I am done with particular part of the ritual and am ready to move to the next part. Also, Blessed Be can be used when and if I am initiated …show more content…
The noun “blessing” comes from Old English Word “bletsunga”. It means “A Gift from God”, thus the sacred meaning to this word. Though it has different usage in different faiths, in Wicca it is accorded a sacred meaning because the main aim of using this phrase is so that the blessings of a diety is invoked into that person. This is the reason why using such a serious process lightly by saying it casually as greeting or farewell reduces the energy of the word. Though, it is used as greeting and farewell but only in ritual sense i.e when opening or concluding any ritual since we are asking the Deity to manifest their blessings in us, a person or the spell used in the ritual. Blessed Be is used mainly in dedication rites, initiation rituals and specifically the Five Fold Kiss Ritual. Blessed Be is considered as the shorthand form of “Wiccan Rede” though its origins is believe to be from Gerald Gardener’s (father of modern Wicca) main Initiation Rite(which included the Five Fold Kiss Ritual). It is a powerful term that can be used when that person is in requirement of extra boost from the
