In Terrance Hayes’s poem “Mr. T-,” the speaker presents the actor Laurence Tureaud, also known as Mr. T, as a sellout and an unfavorable role model for the African American youth for constantly playing negative, stereotypical roles for a black man in order to achieve success in Hollywood. The speaker also characterizes Mr. T as enormous and simple-minded with a demeanor similar to an animal’s to further his mockery of Mr. T’s career. The speaker begins his commentary on the actor’s career by suggesting that The A-Team, the show Mr. T stars in, is racist by mentioning how he is “Sometimes drugged / & duffled (by white men) in a cockpit,” which seems to draw illusions to white men capturing and transporting slaves to new territories during the time of the slave trade (4-5).
People make decisions everyday and each decision they make has an effect on them whether it's good or bad. In the short story, “The Bass, The River, and Sheila Mant” by W.D. Wetherell the narrator is a 14 year old boy who has a big crush. He has a crush on a older girl named Sheila Mant. The narrator’s crush over Sheila is almost like an obsession because he makes a lot of decisions based on Sheila, and the way he feels about her. The theme of decision making is clearly developed in the beginning, middle, and end of this story.
“Sober Song” by Barton Sutter is arranged as a free verse poem with a rhyme scheme pattern within every other line. This poem describes a man saying his goodbyes to the memories he has had with alcohol. The poem’s beat and rhythm reminds the reader of a broken love song to the liquor that had once taken over his life. In lines in 1 through 4, we have a special pattern displayed not only in these lines, but throughout the entire poem.

I have chosen “ Uptown Funk” by Bruno Mars and “ Rock Around The Clock” by Bill Haley as this assessment ‘s topic. Basic information of two songs will be mentioned first, then similarities, differences and connections will be discussed afterwards. First of all, Bruno Mars is a songwriter and popular singer who came from Hawaii, and he released “Uptown Funk” on 2014 , it won the Grammy award for Record of the Year. It is a pop, funk boogie with Minneapolis song. “ Uptown Funk” is talking about how a guy looking good , wearing jewelry and branded shoes , talking about how hot the singer is and how rich he is also it shows the exciting social life of the singer.
Hip-hop is an influential form of music that displays an artist’s honest and revealing story that many of the general public can relate to. One of the many songs that I can relate to is “Love Yourz” written by J Cole. The song talks about how Cole reflects on the most important things in life such as love and happiness. He realizes that the money and fame didn’t bring him the happiness he desired. To gain true happiness, he needed to appreciate himself and those that love him.
“The Little Rascals” film is a comedy that was released on August 5th ,1994 by Universal Pictures and produced by Amblin Entertainment. The Little Rascals is a more modified version of the “Our Gang” short film that was written by Hal Roach. It consisted of a number of well known actors such as: Raven-Symone, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, and Whoopi Goldberg. Although the movies can be seen as a comedy for children and adults, it also has some subliminal messages. Being a young woman in America it is quite hard for me to accept the depiction of the women’s role that is being used throughout the film.
In the song, “Whiskey Lullaby,” written by Jon Randall and Bill Anderson and sung by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, the message being sent is that love so strong can be ruined with just one mistake that could lead to worst outcomes. Told in second point-of-view, the author supports this theme by describing the setting of a gloomy country home establishing the major conflict of love and death and incorporating the use of irony, tone shifts, imagery, and word choices. Paisley’s purpose is to imply that love can become something putrid and could end up hurting loved ones very deeply. This song creates a mood of sadness and mournfulness for an audience that have experience this type of situation being described in the song. Throughout the whole song the singer used different tones when singing different parts of the song.
The song that I chose was “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. It was released in 2004, and was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance. It also hit number five on the Billboard Hot 100. Natasha Bedingfield has another popular song “Pocketful of Sunshine” and was really only popular in 2004-2006. You can find her songs on multiple 00’s playlists.
