The time it took for things to calm down in Flavia’s life did not take longer than the time she took to solve the mystery. Flavia writes to the king, Dogger tells her “just sign it. The king prefers brevity.” (Bradley, 368) Dogger is telling her what to do, and looking out for her, like when she overheard her father’s conversation with Bonepenny in her father’s study. After she was rescued, she asks Ophelia to “pop back into the pit…your dress is already filthy…be a good girl.” This shows her teasing her sister right after the danger passed.
