As this novel progresses many readers will take the emotional journey alongside the characters Florentino, Fermina, and Dr. Urbino. Through traumatic events such as Doctor Urbino examining his best friend, Jeremiah Saint-Amour’s dead body, Florentino stalking Fermina, to death in the name of love. This novel has little excitement, or joyous moments, yet it captures many reader’s minds and draws them further and further into the emotional rollercoaster which is, Love in the Time of Cholera. Florentino’s obsession with Fermina is not normal, nor is it healthy. Urbino. His beloved parrot escapes the crutches of their broken home because the servants took him out of the cage to clip his wings and then the beloved parrot gets stuck in a mango tree. Dr. Urbino, still obsessed with this bird, gets a ladder to rescue this famous parrot for the last time. He furiously climbed to the top of the ladder and grabs his most treasured possession from the tree. On his way down something happened and he fell to his death. Fermina was not affected by her husbands death, which was surprising considering she said she loved him. Dr. Urbino certainly loved Fermina because his last words were “only God will know how much I truly loved you” (Márquez 45). After everything that they have been through he loved her sincerely even though he never got to express how much he loved her. Him dying was not the only reason the marriage ended, although it made the divorce permanent, they were constantly fighting over stupid things like soap, and the smell of ammonia. Their marriage of thirty years was coming to an end because of all the stupid fights, and the fact that every morning Dr. Urbino woke up and got dressed in the dark, but in the process of doing so, woke Fermina up every morning, which in turn made her
