Can a mentally incapable man become really smart in a few weeks? Charlie Gordon in the book “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes. A Science fiction character Charlie Gordon, who is mentally challenged and wanted to be like others.Charlie Gordon wants to be smart and be normal like others. He is a grown man the age of 38 with mental issues. His teacher, Mrs.Kinnian tries to help Charlie by making him to write in a notebook.Charlie gets a surgery to become smart and be normal like others. The surgery goes perfect, but it's a temporary surgery so it's only going to last a few months. After a few weeks Charlie starts to notices new things and falls in love with his teacher. Later on he starts to lose his intelligence and becomes the way he was before the surgery. At the end of the story he leaves New York because he is embarrassed.That everybody saw him in a smart way and now that he isn't smart people are going to make fun of him. People think that getting a surgery is bad,but honestly it's good for people that need help that have mental issues.

Charlie said, “ I was furious at myself and all those who were smirking at him. I jumped up and shouted, ‘Shut Up!Leave him alone! It’s not his fault he can't understand!But for god’s sake he is still a human being!’”. Charlie noticed that he was making fun at what used to be him. Charlie also said, “Only a short time ago, I learned that people laughed at me. Now i can see that unknowingly i joined with them in laughing at myself.” He figured that a while ago after the surgery he was getting bullied bug with out him knowing he started to laugh ta
