Charlie can look back and learn from his memories from being smart. “I knew that this was only the beginning. I knew what she meant about levels because I’d seen them already.” (234) This quote connects to Charlie remembering his memories because he remembered the levels of being smart. Being smart is very important in life and someone his age should not be struggling.
Another reason why the operation was a good idea is that Charlie was able to help others. “This day was good for me, seeing that past more clearly, I have decided to use my knowledge and skill to work in the fields of increasing human intelligence.” (238) Charlie is going to use his intelligence skills and help in the field of human intelligence. Therefore Charlie is becoming smart and the operation is working. Before Charlie got the operation, Charlie would never have the confidence to help anyone.
In addition to the operation, Charlie got to experience friendship and love. Charlie got to experience friendship and love like a normal human being. “The thought of leaving her behind made me sad.
