(1991). Fly away home. New York: Clarion Books. This book is about a homeless boy who lives in an airport with his father. They are constantly moving from terminal to terminal trying not to be noticed. The reason they don’t want to be noticed is because they didn’t want to be asked to leave the airport, which is their home. In order not to be noticed, both the son and the father wear blue to mix in with travelers. At the end of the story the young boy is given hope when a bird becomes trapped in the airport. At the end of the story the bird finally finds its freedom, and that gives the young boy hope that one day him and his father would be able to as well. This is a different kind of story about being homeless or having a different living situation. The story focuses around the little boy and his father along with the others that are living in the airport. I find this story to be very powerful, through out the story we see both the father and the son working hard in order to create a better life for themselves by trying to save money in order to be able to live in an apartment one day. This book is told from the perspective of the young boy, which makes more relatable to
