Food addiction is a serious underlying problem throughout the world and the United States. Addiction leads to obesity, which is a disease where eating and overeating leads to an out of control weight problem and further developed health conditions. Our brains are being affected by foods in the same way drugs effect our brains. Drugs and food have extremely powerful effects, which are mediated by dopamine increases in the brain reward centers. These abrupt increases in vulnerable people, can override the brain’s homeostasis control mechanisms. Both food or drug addiction can be defined as disorders in which a specific type of reward becomes exaggerated at the expense of other rewards. Some foods can be more addictive than others, especially those containing high fat and sugar. An immensely important feature in any sort of addiction is the loss on control, as pointed out many times before. Too much of something can become addictive. To get in a habit of overeating leads to this addictive behavior and leads the body to wanting more and more beyond control.
