• Safety. Food must not be placed on the market if it could cause ill health or is unfit for human consumption.
• Presentation. Labelling, advertising and presentation of food must not mislead customers.
• Traceability. All food businesses must keep records of food, food substances and food-producing animals supplied to or by their business and be able to produce this information on demand.
• Withdrawal and recall. Food that does not comply with safety requirements must be withdrawn from sale, or recalled if it has reached the consumer, and relevant authorities must be notified.
• The Food Hygiene Regulations. These apply EU hygiene requirements to the UK and require all businesses which prepare, handle and sell food to comply with hygiene rules to make sure the food is safe to eat. A key requirement is for all food …show more content…

These require food for supply to consumers to be marked or labelled with information including its name, a list of ingredients (including allergens) with amounts, durability indication (for example best before or use by date), special storage conditions or instructions and the name and address of the manufacturer, packer or retailer. • The Materials and Articles in Contact with Food Regulations. These are concerned with materials used in wrapping and packaging that come into direct contact with food and prohibit the manufacture and import of non-compliant materials.
