Food Lion is a well-known chain grocery store that has been around since 1957. Food Lion’s reputation is surely not as upright as it was when it first opened. There are several reasons as to why Food Lion is not the same anymore, but one of the main reasons is the employees hired and how they are trained. Like every business Food Lion’s goal is to earn a profit, but training for Food Lion employees is limited and that causes the employees to not be the best they could be which affects business. Not only are the employees not trained well enough, but some employees have even testified against Food Lion for lack of overtime pay. Food Lion has had problems with the quality of their products and has not complied with their own rules towards their employees. As stated in a newspaper written in Texas, Food Lion was put on the spot by ABC news reporters. They went undercover to prove that Food Lion was using spoiled produce and selling it. The thing is that if the employees were better trained and better prepared to help customers with their purchases then business would most likely not be as critical as it currently is. Firing all those employees is not going to create a profit, it’s just going to leave Food Lion without the help of 350 people that have been doing their job. As written in Ocala Star- Banner Newspaper “Phillips-Brown said the changes will help create “a new organizational structure that enables the company to operate more effectively and efficiently” (Ocala Star- Banner, 2013). Food Lion is saying that firing those workers will organize them better but there are other grocery stores, like Publix and Walmart that are doing exceptionally well and they have not had the need to fire that many employees at
