Eric Schlosser - Fat Food Nation Eric Schlosser begins "Global Realization" with a visit to Plauen, which he writes, "has been alternately punished, rewarded, devastated, and transformed by the great unifying system of the twentieth century... Plauen has been a battlefield for these competing ideologies, with their proudly displayed and archetypal symbols: the smokestack, the swastika, the hammer and sickle, the golden arches. " What are the "competeing ideologies" to which Schlosser refers? What do the "archetypal symbols" he mentions represent? Each person learns to develop their own distinct set of beliefs based on the fact that they have their own subjective reality.
In the short story “Star Food” by Ethan Canin; Dade ,the main character, is plagued by his own curiosity. In the past his mother and father have been at odds as to what Dade should do with his time. When the story progresses Dade’s mother urges him to make a discovery whilst laying on the roof of their grocery store. On the other hand, his father urges hard-working values so that he can achieve a good life. At the end, Dade begins to intral himself with a old poor women, who regularly steals from the grocery store.
Lastly the Do-It-Yourself Meal is hunted, gathered & gardened food. As Omnivores we face the dilemma of not knowing what food chain is the best to feed the United States. The Industrial Organic Meal is the best food chain to feed the United States because it is healthy for you & good for the environment.

We come across varieties of food everyday, but we know very little about where it comes from and their history. Reading Michael Pollan’s The Omnivore’s Dilemma opened my eyes to all that goes into producing what I eat. Pollan explores three different modern food chains in his book: the industrial, the organic, and the hunter-gatherer.
Michael Pollans novel up too section 3 talks about the different foods you can buy in a supermarket or a local farm, and many think that’s it. However there is one more option. Section four of Michael Pollans novel The Omnivoere’s Dilemma also discusses the oldest food chain in history; the first ever food chain; Hunter-Gatherer, also reffered to as the Do-It-Yourself-Meal. In this section Michael Pollan discusses how this is the one of the best food chain, its healthier, better for the enviornment, and it’s is actually the cheapest food chain compared to others with hidden expenses as too the actual damage it causes. The United States is generally viewed as a country of abundance with food plentifully available; however, throughout the United States there are cities and towns that lack access to healthful food sources. These areas are commonly referred to as food deserts. The USDA specifically defines food deserts as areas that are “low-income census tract where either a substantial number or share of residents have low access to a supermarket or large grocery store. ”1 Therefore, areas that have multiple fast food restaurants or convenience stores but no grocery store may also fall into this category.

Due to financial factors such as a low capacity of trades, many rural areas lack food shops and could be considered “food deserts.” Which are areas where there is limited availability of fresh, affordable foods.
