To begin our experiment we created a food web. We created our food web by identifying what organisms were producers or consumer. If the animals were consumers, then we further grouped them into one of three categories: primary, secondary, or tertiary/apex. We did this to make it easier to later arrange them on the food web and find what it should eat. We started with producers. Producers are the only organisms that don’t need to eat to survive, instead they get their energy from, as our article puts it, “harvesting energy from other sources”. After the producers were all grouped together, we were left with the consumers. A primary consumer solely eats the producers making them herbivores.
