Football is a sport that has been occupying Americans since 1879. Deriving from the English game of rugby, football has won over the hearts of many either on the field or behind the television screen. There are many positions played in football, and with each comes an important responsibility. On the front offensive, there are four different playing positions. These positions are the Center, Guard, Tackle, and Tight End. Every one of these roles on field have their own significant tasks that help make the team function accordingly. The first position on the front offensive line is the Center. Reflecting its title, the Center is in the middle of the rest of his teammates on the line. His main job is to aid the Quarterback in effectively taking possession of the ball. The referee places the ball on the grass in front of the Center, where he then awaits the Quarterback’s signal. When it is time, he commences the play by sweeping the ball up between his legs, and then handing or tossing it to the Quarterback (Lawrence). On the offensive line there are to Guards: the right and left, and they are located on each side of the Center. This can be carried out in two different ways, depending on the Quarterback’s demands. There is a pass block, which requires standing still and not letting anyone by or through; or there is a running block.
