Forensic psychology involves the application of research and investigation in the psychological arenas, such as social psychology and cognitive psychology to the legal field. Such involves applying psychological study results to legal questions. Bartol and Bartol (2004) note that forensic psychology in law enforcement is categorized into investigative psychology and police psychology to help police officers to conduct criminal investigations. Forensic psychology has thus contributed immensely in the field of police work.
One of such contributions is geographical profiling which is used to analyze spatial characteristics of a crime as well as the behavioral characteristics of the suspects to provide probabilities of the residence of the perpetrator.
