career journal activity: 1.2.3 Bone Detectives description: read interviews with forensic anthropologist and synthesize a definition of the career. my work: A forensic anthropologist is a group of people who investigate a dead body to discover its gender, ancestry, stature, ethnicity and other unique features about it. Through their investigations they can also discover how the victim may have died and other important background information that can move the investigation further in solving the case. A forensic anthropologist needs to be able to conduct research, know their bones, muscles and other body parts along with be able to make educated conclusions related to the received data and observations they find and make. activity: forensic anthropologist
Each show uses the same main aspects used by Forensic Scientists in assisting law enforcement, that Emily Fisher “Deconstructing the CSI Effect: Forensic Science & the Media.” Fisher also uses an example of NCIS: One Shot One Kill episode, to explain that the procedures in finding the bullets were incorrect. The episode is based on a Navy Recruiting officer being shot in his recruitment office by a sniper. In reality, under circumstances of easily finding a bullets in walls wouldn 't be accessible.
I am interested in attending the Marist Criminal Justice summer program because I want to learn more about the many careers in the criminal justice field. A criminal justice-related career is typically displayed on television on shows like “Bones” and “NCIS.” These shows probably do not accurately portray what a job in the criminal justice field is really like because they are meant for entertainment. I’m hoping to learn more about the realistic side of criminal justice in the Marist program. What interests me the most in this field is Forensic Science, the process of solving the crime and how forensic scientists and all of the other law enforcement agencies work together.

They also work very closely with law enforcement officers, the field is never boring, there is always a different crime to uncover and solve. This shows that when you're in this field it always keeps you on your toes with different things to do. CSI agents work in laboratories but often travel to crime scenes at different locations, they also determine the who, what , how and where of a crime. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistic, they also take photographs, draw sketches, and write notes about their observations. While analyzing data many tools are used such as tweezers, black lights and kits as part of their methods.

Forensic Science is the career field I am interested in. I would enjoy being a forensic science technician because of my interest in mysteries and figuring things out. This career choice is the right choice for me because I would only need a Bachelor’s degree, it would be work I enjoy doing, and I would make an exceptional salary. Forensic science technicians aid investigations by collecting and testing evidence. Many technicians spend time either in a laboratory or on the field in crime scene investigation.
If you are interested in working in the legal system, then a degree in criminal justice is something to consider. You can complete some of the courses you need for your degree online. Throughout life, many are faced with obstacles. These obstacles can either set them further in society and help them reach their aspirations, or those challenges can cause one to refrain from reaching their full potential. Which in retrospect makes them settle for less than what they can fully achieve. The difference in those two paths are work ethic; if one works hard and is honest and fair they can truly achieve greatness, while the other simply settles for the easier option which in the long run may cause them more struggle later in life. Forensic Technicians are an important part of law enforcement. They make up 11% of law enforcement. That may seem like a small amount in the law enforcement field, but they have such an important role even in such small numbers. This is why I am interested in this field. I would love to play such a massive role in impacting the lives of the people in my community.
Science has come a long way over the years. It has helped countless every day struggles and cure diseases most commonly found. What you don’t hear about however is the advancement of forensic science. Forensic science has helped solve countless cases of murder, rape, and sexual assault. In the case of John Joubert, it helped solve the murders of three young boys with one small piece of evidence that linked him directly to the crime.
Some professions in this field require an exact specialized expert such as a crime scene investigator. If they make one minor mistake it could mean the loss of critical evidence. That goes with the other hundreds of jobs within the criminal justice
Like general pathology, forensic pathology requires 8 years of schooling. A graduate will need their core classes, also including physics, basic biology, chemistry, and some criminal law education. After undergraduate school, they will have to go to med school, get an internship, and a residency. On a daily basis, a forensic pathologist will perform autopsies, help aid in the completion of a criminal investigation, and conduct studies that will help them discover the cause of death. The educational path required to achieve my goal of becoming a forensic scientist will be a long, exhausting process. The different characteristics of forensic science- like the use of analytical techniques- is what sets itself apart from just any other science degree(Thorpe).
