In the film “Let the Right One In”, directed by Tomas Alfredson, the protagonists Oskar, a sensitive and bullied boy, finds love in the darkest place via Eil, who lives as an identity of a vampire. In this film, I will be analysing the scene of Oskar's reaction to Eil’s identity as a vampire. In this scene, Tomas Alfredson is striving to foreshadow both their relationship as a burden on Oskar via the different use of portents to portray Oskar's reaction to Eil’s identity. I will be applying four different aspects to convey the significance of this scene in the context of the overall film.

Hence, Oskar carries a burden of the responsibility of providing blood for Eil similar to following Hankan footstep, Eli’s ex-lover. Tomas Alfredson illustrates the key visual aspect via juxtaposition of the golden egg, wedding rings and the money as props to foreshadow their relationship as a burden on Oskar via different portents. When Oskar enters through the see through door, the atmosphere changes to an unsettling emotion. We witness this within the nine second shot, portraying the props of the golden egg and the wedding rings placed onto the table in the empty room and the use of Eil lending money to Oskar, all of which are used to further symbolic the portent to further foreshadow an insight to Oskars future due to his relationship with Eil and how it developes into a burden on Oskar. When Oskar enters the door, Eil introduces Oskar to the golden egg, the first prop which gives an insight into Oskar’s future which is portrayed in a camera shot of many different items that is condersided worthy for a vampire to claim. In this shot we witness the golden egg as the attention of this shot due to the composition of props in this shot. The golden egg captures the audience's attention due to the weight of the prop in a frame. In the shot, full of objects, the audience’s attention will directly capture the attention of the object with more weight or mass which is why the golden egg captures the most attention in this shot and is considered significant. The use of this shot is further developed by a snip of both Oskar and Eil fingers directly pointing towards the egg, but the action of Oskar touching the egg causes the egg to crumble.
