“The Tell-Tale Heart” by Edgar Allan Poe and “The Landlady” by Roald Dahl are two short stories that brilliantly convey suspense. With the use of foreshadowing, dramatic irony, and setting (change according to element and order), these short stories manipulate the emotions of the reader and take them down a gut-wrenching roller coaster. Each short story leaves the reader at the edge of their seat, forcing them to anticipate what will happen next. Poe and Dahl use foreshadowing to shape their short stories. “I think it was his eye.
