Forgetful Love Traditionally first dates are defined by several characteristics. They usually begin with an awkward greeting followed by a nearly silent car ride to a restaurant that is just pricey enough to make people cringe when they look at the menu. After an uncomfortable dinner, the couple strolls over to a local movie theater to see the latest romantic comedy. In the dark theater, there may be some "yawn and stretching" as the gentleman slyly places his arm around the shoulders of his date. As the couple finish their outing they reach for each other's sweaty palms as the two wait at the lady's doorstep. The lady gives her date a peck on the cheek and sends him on his way. The two main characters in, "50 First Dates," are played by the well known actors Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore. The acting that these two actors did in this movie is very well done and enjoyable to watch. These actors did a fantastic portrayal of the characters they represented. Adam Sandler, who is known for his major comedic roles, is able to maintain his comical facade while still being able to express a tender and loving side toward Lucy as the film progressed. The only problem I can see with these two actors is that some of their romantic moments may come across as a little cheesy, but in a romantic comedy, cheesy or cliché romance is what makes the genre both funny and tender at the same …show more content…

While, "50 First Dates," is considered a romantic comedy and does have both aspects of this genre it seems to be lacking in the depth of the romantic content. There are many tender moments shared by Henry Roth and Lucy Whitmore, but the actual romance is a little vague. Henry comes across as a little shallow and seems to stay that way throughout the entire movie. That being said, at the beginning of the movie Roth was portrayed as a very loose man who constantly found creative ways to ditch his one night stands. He changed all that when he met Lucy and all of a sudden he falls in love with her and would do anything for her. There is a little bit of a plot hole when addressing this because it is a bit hard to believe that a man as shameless as Henry Roth would all of a sudden give up his perfect life for one girl with issues, but it is very common theme among love stories so it is hard to judge it based solely on that impression. Still, I feel that if the director took more time to explain the romance and let it blossom more, it would not have come across as so
