The book “Picking Cotton” tells the true story of forgiveness faith and courage. The author Jennifer Thompson Camino shares her account as a survivor of sexual assault and the healing process as a college student 1984. Alongside her, Ronald Cotton tells his story of wrongful conviction and imprisonment as an innocent man together. It’s switched from both points of views in the book, Ronald and Jennifer’s. It made it more manageable to follow their story. Their story eliminates how we shape interrogate are unconscious cultural bias. The fragility of life in compelling nature of out humanity, the power reconciliation over retribution and personal strength to overcome term all and find peace. “‘I forgive you,’ I told her. ‘I’m not angry at you. I don’t want you to spend the rest of your life looking over your shoulder, thinking I’m out to get you, or harm your family. If you look, I’m not going to be there. All I want is for us all to go on and have a happy life’” (Cotton 245). This forgiveness for Jennifer just like a “gift”. It was not only forgiving Jennifer but also was a gift for Ronald own selves. She felt so much guilt about everything and when she and Ronald met and he forgave her for the mistakes. Moreover, she has made a huge weight was lifted off of her shoulders. Kindness also breaks the cycle. Ronald never showed any hatred towards Jennifer. It was a kindness that Jennifer shall never forget and bring freedom to her soul and release her
