I can contribute my knowledge of social justice and ability to be a community servant to this organization. My long-term life goal is to become a hospital owner in multiple underrepresented areas and foreign countries. Being a community servant, one can build character while helping open doors or provide opportunities for those who are less fortunate. I’ve read the many articles of the large groups of Alpha men graduating from Meharry Medical College, that have had such a huge impact on the surrounding communities by giving a helping hand when needed. The National Honor Society is an opportunity for many students, who are well educated with dreams and leaderships skills, to upgrade themselves. The sole purpose of this organization is to endeavor leaders in different societies to help out their community. It will help colleges to notify the leaders when looking at students’ resumes, for those students in this organization will be the few who are well-developed leaders in their school. Since this will be the first time to be given the opportunity to contribute to this organization, I may not know everything about the requirements in which I need to manage.
Leaders possess different strengths that allow them to succeed in their career or life. The Clifton Strengths Finder Assessment helped identify my top strengths and how to lead with my strengths in order to further develop them. My top five strengths were competition, positivity, winning others over (WOO), harmony, and achiever. Based on the meaning of each strength, I related to all them, however, I was surprised by some of them.
I was delighted after receiving the letter informing me I was eligible to become part of the National Junior Honor Society. It would be a privilege to be accepted into such a prestigious group as the one listed. The NJHS is known for helping students learn leadership skills and unlock their full potential and I firmly believe that I would love to be a part of it. I am looking for more than just academics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During my four years at Northwood High School, I became involved in numerous academic and extracurricular activities. From my first semester in college I could not decide what career I want to be in. After a long time thinking and researching I narrowed down my interest to political science, and my interests have directed me towards international relations and laws. I am fascinated by how the states of the world cooperate together to build a safe place for everyone. American government places a huge role in the world and many countries need American Foreign Service to help them with their problems. After hearing Melissa Martinez, I understood maybe it is good to think about working in Foreign Service.
My educational goal is to earn a degree in Biology and Spanish from the University of California, Riverside, in hopes of getting a job inside the laboratory department at Kaiser. Based on labs that I have already done at the University, I found that I enjoy working in a similar setting. I would love to have the opportunity to shadow a connoisseur in a similar work environment, as it would be a valuable learning experience. I come from a low-income family in Oakland, California. The economic barrier that has restricted my family has prevented us from moving out from where we live.
I believe that the mission of a student ambassador is to promote the vision, growth and quality of University of Maryland, by optimizing the experience of current students, prospective students and special guests. I would like to be a student ambassador primarily because I want to get more involved with the university; not to mention the positive impact it will have on my CV. I would also gain experience in public speaking, building friendships with fellow ambassadors and develop my leadership skills. Furthermore, this offers a responsibility that can be both challenging and extremely rewarding.
