Power is “a person or organization that has a lot of control and influence over other people or organizations” (Merriam-Webster. Merriam-Webster, n.d. Web. 12 Apr. 2016). Power has been used everywhere in the world. Power can be used in a useful or helpful way, but it can also be abused. Power has created many different types of government that use power in different ways. One government is a dictator or a tyranny. Both of these types of government can abuse power because of the ruler. Many rulers throughout history have abused the honor of having power. Francisco Franco, former ruler of Spain, who ruled from 1939 until his death in 1975 can be used as an example of someone who rose to power then abused it. As a kid Francisco Franco went to a private Catholic school that was run by a priest, but after graduating, he attended his first navy secondary school. Due to Franco’s earlier generation being naval officers, he wanted to follow his family’s path in being one. To follow this path Francisco Franco wanted to join a Naval Academy. “Reduced admissions to the Naval Academy, however, forced him instead to enlist in the army, and in 1907, when he was just 14 years old, Franco entered the Infantry Academy at Toledo” ("Francisco Franco." Even though Francisco Franco wasn’t involved in the Russia Revolution, he still resembles a character in the Animal Farm. The character that Francisco Franco resembles the most is Napoleon. Franco resembles Napoleon because they both acted as dictators in their society. In the book the Animal Farm, Napoleon had anyone that would go against him just like Francisco Franco did. People would go against Franco because he banned religions and languages that were common. Another example is how Napoleon slowly rises to power. Napoleon rises to power by using aggression just like Franco did. Both Franco and Napoleon used propaganda to convince the undecided to side with them.
