Cabeza de Vaca attitude towards the new world was that of suffering and starvation. During his travels, he ate very little, mostly deer-tallow and at one point powdered straw. They did not eat during the day and ate very little at night. Cabeza de Vaca and his men grew very tired and hungry, but could not let the Native Americans see this suffering because they were upholding their authority over them. Nicolas Enriquez’s piece titled The Virgin of Guadalupe with the Four Apparitions depicts the Virgin mother Mary as she revealed herself to a newly transformed Christian Native named Juan Diego. This 1773 painting is a reproduction of the 1531believed arheiropoeita of Virgin Mary when she descends on Mount Tepeyac and tells Indian Juan Diego to go inform the bishop that a temple shall be built for her. The Virgin of Guadalupe is an iconic piece of Catholicism in Mexico and holds religious and cultural importance to both Spaniards and the Natives of Mexico, such as the Nahuatl. Enriquez’s painting has several deviations from the original arheiropoetia, such as different color choice and addition of Nahuatl symbols, which portrays his painting
Oscar Casares created a very believable character in “Mrs. Perez” by writing about Lolas passion, bowling, and including flash backs about her younger life and family. He used these flash backs and incorporated her family to go into depth about her past, and let the readers infer why she is the way she is. The bowling ball that is repeatedly mentioned throughout the story contrast her past life. By giving her a hobby, and showing the struggles she has experienced in her past, she becomes like a real person readers empathize with. To begin with, Casares often went back in time to show her seemingly unhappy life with her now deceased husband.
Antonio Villaraigosa Antonio Villaraigosa was born in January of 1953 in Los Angeles, California. He is divorced with four children. He is currently preparing to run for another chance as Los Angeles’ Mayor in 2018. However, striving to improve life for others came long before his Mayor years. Antonio Villaraigosa is considered one of America’s most influential Hispanic people.
The first piece of artwork I critiqued was the famous Virgin of Guadalupe. The Virgin of Guadalupe is currently exhibited in the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The piece of art is not solely a painting, but an enconchado. It was made into wood, and it essentially creates a reflective surface that appears as moving. Also, I like how they explain their theory on the woman of the apocalypse and how it relates to this piece of art.
In the play, Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” many themes are shown. Throughout the themes the hunger for power, authority and respect stands out the most in male characters, which are the majority gender in the story. According to Webster’s dictionary, power is “the ability or right to control people or things.” Also, according to Webster’s dictionary authority is “the power to give orders or make decisions.” And lastly, Webster’s dictionary tells us that respect is “a feeling of admiring someone or something that is good.”

Honor is the Hardest Master “On the whole, it is better to deserve honors and not have them than to have them and not deserve them”(Twain, Mark Twain’s Notebook, 1902-1903). This quote from Mark Twain directly relates to the primary theme of honor in the novel The Tragedy of Pudd’nhead Wilson, and the message that Twain is trying to get across about it. He is saying that honor is something that is deserved, but is not always recognized, and that most often people who think they deserve it do not. Honor is what helps us with our morals and helps us to distinguish good from bad. When people are without honor, most of the time without good morals and cannot tell right from wrong.

But how is resilience defined? In short, resilience is the ability of a person to appreciate what life hands them instead of sulking upon it. A quote by Elizabeth Edwards supports this definition and ties in with Jeannette Walls’ personal experiences.
Obtaining and defending one's honor defines a person's life the community conveyed in Gabriel García Marquez’s novela Chronicle of a Death Foretold. Honor is an intangible prize that is synonymous with worship and good reputation. In the small town that this chronicle takes place in is very divided through gender. For a woman to be respected highly and maintain her honor she must be pure and practice chastity before marriage. Opposed to that, for a man to be considered with honor, he perform hyper-masculinity in everything that he does, and treat everyone with this pugnacious attitude.

Escobar had achieved a great quantity of accomplishments, from the beginning to the end of his life. From his rise as a lower class citizen, to then being amongst the prestigious group of people associated with the economic rank of the 1 percent.
The book uses a teenagers perspective to exhibit these struggles. This helps teenagers connect to the book as even they might have perspectives similar to of Junior’s (main character). Both the authors use similar literary devices like external conflict, internal conflict and characterization to keep the reader interested in the text. The belief of respect is important that managers, supervisors, employees at the organization also reflect organization’s culture and manner. I realized that respect others is an effective way to improve my own quality and it requires me to respect others’ achievement and custom.
