The legendary Franco Harris was born on this day, March 7 but in 1950. A native of Fort Dix, New Jersey, Franco is an honorable Super Bowl champion of 1980 and was seen by millions on NFL Monday Night Football during the 70s and the NFL on NBC in 1965.

Franco went to Rancocas Valley Regional High School (Mount Holly, NJ) where he displayed professional football potential. He would graduate and go on to Penn State University and play with the Nittany Lions. He was selected as an ambitious running back and was able to master his ability and skills there. As a result, he accumulated 25 touchdowns and over 2000 (rushing) yards by 1970.

After his time with Penn State, Franco Harris was entered into the NFL draft pick and was picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers as their first choice for running back. After the most incredible start a rookie could have, Franco Harris and the Steelers went on the win four Super Bowls during the '70s. Although he has terrific stats, Harris ' best games consisted of 11 touchdowns, rushing 1,246 yards (from the scrimmage line). After rolling the Minnesota Vikings in a Super Bowl, Franco Harris was named MVP. This came after a touchdown and 158 yards.

Franco remained with Pittsburgh until he signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 1984. However, the period was brief and he retired his jersey after only 8 games. Regrettably, he didn 't get to break Jim Brown 's rushing record... all he needed was about 200 more yards.
