Frank Lloyd Wright at 150 Exhibition: Unpacking the Archive The Frank Lloyd Wright Exhibition was an interesting experience, when I visited it at the Museum of Modern Art(MoMA). Prior to entering the museum, I was unaware who Frank Lloyd Wright was. I instantaneously learned that Wright was the most famous and prolific architect during the early 1900s, responsible for executing 532 of over 1,000 structures initially designed. Riding the Metro North down to the city, then walking over ten blocks in the city, observing all the fascinating architecture and buildings nearby, was a bit ironic because those were the types of structures that Frank Lloyd Wright worked on for around 50 years.. “For several years I sat at the little Kindergarten table-top...and played..with the cube, the sphere and the triangle”(Wright). It is evident at a young age Wright showed signs of his future expertise. It was unique to learn that Wright played with blocks as a toddler and in elementary school; but then also for MoMA to have what seemed like replicated sets of the blocks Frank Lloyd Wright used to mess around with at a young age. One question that was elicited during the tour was, “What urban dreams reflect today’s values about how we can live together and how do they impact the way we design basic necessities such as water and food supply, transportation, housing, work, and recreation?” After this question was evoked, I went over to the hands on table to play around with the blocks to think about what urban dreams reflect today’s values. I thought that ‘building up’ at the time was an essential new way of building to obviously maximize space and it would be easier to design for transportation. If everything was more spread out, it would require more roads and schools to be built. Living together in apartment style housing saved money and resources to build these cities.
