One category, the Early Influences, goes to a group or individual artist whose “music predated rock and roll but had an impact on the evolution of rock and roll and inspired rock's leading artists,” according to the Rock Hall of Fame (Smith). While the spotlight often goes towards the new musicians, the genre in itself would not exist without the artists who came before and paved the way. Frank Sinatra, known to some as the artist of the century, is the most deserving of induction into the Early Influences category of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Known as a teen idol from the 40s til even the 90s, Sinatra, the leader of the Rat Pack, had an impressive musical career success. Frank Sinatra has been a legend for decades. He spread his influence across multiple genres of music, making himself an icon. Called an “all-timer” by Alicia Keyes, Sinatra’s musical success surely backs up the claim, going back to the start of his rise to fame in the 1940s (Armstrong 3). After his first solo album, “The Voice of Frank Sinatra” was released in 1946, it “ soon climbed to No. 1.” (GRAMMY 2) He captivated audiences and dominated the charts with his charismatic stage presence, even receiving fame on a national level. This success is proven by the many awards received throughout his lifetime, including the Recording Academy’s Lifetime Achievement Award, the Trustee Award, and the Grammy Legend Award. The similarities between Jagger’s performance and Sinatra’s is evident, and he has given credit for these aspects of his career. David Bowie is similarly a master of connecting with the audience and adding emotion to his performance. He recognized Sinatra’s special ability to have a next-level emotional connection and the way he understood music.“The other thing is, every time you perform on a record, you’ve really got to be on.
