Is there ever a correct way to raise a child to the correct path of life? Will even the happiest of childhoods create a monster? Throughout the classic novel of Frankenstein, by the creative writer Mary Shelly, the conflicted theme of nature versus nature is established from its main characters. Early on in the story line, Victor is revealed to have a loving and joyful childhood from both of his parents Alphonse and Caroline. However, after a failed experiment during his study of natural philosophy in Ingolstadt, Victor abandoned his creation made with human remains. After his birth, the creature's genetically advanced survival instinct allowed him to gain a clear thought process almost spontaneously. This draws an insight that the monster was able to learn the morals of life himself. While one might believe that since he was independent with no parent figure, the monster was unable to learn what was morally correct. However, while living in close quarters with a cottage family in a rural area, the monster learns a sense of delight as “the trait of kindness moves [him] sensibly” after closely watching the every move of his new neighbors (99). This illustrates that using the absence of his father is not an excuse for the monster to commit heinous crimes as he was initially exposed to the warmhearted family. Meaning that the De Lacey family served as a parental figure to the fiend. During his urge to murder the brother of his creator, the beast had the moral education from the cottagers to distinguish right from wrong but still willingly chose to follow through with the crime. After learning what was morally correct and incorrect, the monster was misunderstood for his acts of sympathy towards humanity. For instance, on his journey away from the Delacey family, he sacrificed his life to save a young girl from drowning but he was met with a bullet wound. While this is true, the monster should not have overreacted and instead should have been aware of the circumstances of the situation. A part of being kind-hearted is forgiving a person who made a bad choice. There was no reason to enact sinful actions since he became hateful to humanity for their violent manners of killing one another. He is only contradicting himself while he seeks vengeance for his cruel treatment. While even his own father enacted harm to him when he destroyed his female companion out of fear that the female would damage the species of humankind and instead created their own race of monsters. While this was emotionally heartbreaking for the creature since all he wanted was the care of another, his desire for revenge and enactment of misery on Victor was genetically evil. Taking this into account, there could have been other productions of happiness that were not a female version of himself. Instead of requesting this, the monster could have asked Victor to instead change his visual appeal to be more pleasing to people and attract companionships. The creature had the
