Throughout life, a person will encounter all kinds of different perspectives from the people they meet. To truly be able to connect with and understand a person, one must accept and come to terms with the concept that their own perspective is never the only perspective. Without understanding situations from other peoples’ perspectives, a person can become prejudiced and intolerant towards others and the things they may go through. Being able to connect with a person and understand their thoughts and beliefs, even if you may not agree with them, is a key skill that is needed for effective communication and meaningful relationships. In Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein, one of the main characters suffers from isolation and lack of human connection
(Shelly, Chapter 9). These thoughts by Victor himself seem to be only thoughts of a deranged or insane person who are so haunted by their feelings and actions that they believe that solitude is their only option. This furthermore proves how untrustworthy Victor is with his word even if it not on purpose. He uses the little that he knows to fuel his hatred towards humans and his creator. This shows the exponential growth of the problems that Victor has created as a result of his desire for knowledge. Not only did he create the destructive monster, but now the monster is using a hunger for knowledge, the very thing that created it, to do even more damage. Change is the one thing that nothing is immune to. This is clearly shown throughout Mary Shelley’s, Frankenstein. The novel tells of a scientist, Victor, who just wanted to make something with his life. Victor spends many years of his life in college where he figures out he has the ability to give life to an inanimate object and sets off on a path of creation. A few years later, Victor completes his task and gives life to his grand creation.

The novel Frankenstein has a unique way of expressing how the setting functions as a whole. Mary Shelley used an early 1800s setting in Switzerland and London to show how Victor made it through this extraordinary adventure.
