Franklin D. Roosevelt: Impact and Legacy

Franklin Delano Roosevelt once said, “The only thing we have to fear, is fear itself”. Roosevelt lived his life by this. He never showed his fear when the country needed him the most. FDR had many successes, such as making the New Deal in response to the Great Depression, he was also the longest-serving president in the history of the United States. Although he accomplished many things, he did do somethings some would find unacceptable, such as having extramarital affairs.

One of Roosevelt's many accomplishments was that he created the New Deal in order to handle the Great Depression. "I pledge you, I pledge myself, to a new deal for the American people." is what FDR said when accepting the Democratic Party nomination for president in 1932. This was his promise to Americans, that he would protect and serve them during the Depression. The New Deal was a series of economic policies after the Great Depression left the U.S. economy in a dismal state. The programs were implemented to provide relief to millions of Americans that were stuck in a state of poverty as a result of the Great Depression. At least one-fourth of the population was unemployed during the Great Depression. Some programs the new deal created were the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), the Federal Emergency Relief Administration (FERA), and the Public Works Administration (PWA).
