Franklin D Roosevelt is known to some as the 2nd best president of the United States, following Abraham Lincoln in 1st. He had done a lot of great things while he was president to keep our country going. In To Kill a Mocking Bird by Harper Lee, they are in time period of the Great Depression, and have struggles with civil rights. Franklin was president at this time and had a challenge with the Great Depression but handled it very well. He had a big contribution to the recovery from this Depression. He was in the Democratic Party and served as president from 1933-1945. He went to college at Harvard University, and graduated in 1903 (“Franklin D. Roosevelt”). After his practice with law, he decided to turn to his love for politics. His first enter to the political area, he ran for the New York State Senate (“Franklin D. Roosevelt”). Before Franklin was president, the US was already going through the Great Depression. Herbert Hoover was the president leading the US before Franklin. People where losing jobs and prices started to drop which was bad for sellers or farmers. Several farm states had passed laws preventing foreclosure of farms for debt (Schnell 5).
