Franklin Delano Roosevelt ,president of the United States. He gave a famous speech called “State of the Union Address”, in that speech he talked about “Four Freedom”. He gave this speech on January 6,1941. Roosevelt goal was to give hope to this people during that time. United States was in a deep depression because Europe was at war and most nations had lost their freedom to Nazi. Since so much was happening around the world, he wanted to help aid the world and wanted to get people in board. “Animals and Ethics” by Peter Singer and Jim Mason. Singer born in Australia in 1971, who went to Oxford and met people who were vegetarian. He never met one a vegetarian before this encounter. After meeting one he started to thing about his lifestyle and how he eats. Since then he decided to become a vegetarian. He made his position very clear and it brought much criticism to him. Singer though it was morally wrong to cause others pain. He was know as consequentialist, who measures ethical values in terms of consequences of one actions. In Singer and Mason they give backup information and sources that agree with there point of view. They start there essay by saying “In American,those opposed to factory farming include Matthew Scully, a former speech writer in George W. Bush’s White House and the author of Dominion: The Power of Man,the Suffering of Animals and the call to Mercy.”(431). To start your paragraph like that means something, its a bold statement that grabs your attention. Another thing that is different is that Singer and Mason also write for the defensive side. Which is important because you have to have enough evidence to make your case. If you don't have strong evidence you can’t persuade people to change there
