President Franklin Delano Roosevelt uses logos through his literal language to reassure the American people about the state of their banks in his first “Fireside Chat.” However, his speech also includes notes of pathos and ethos in his figurative speech to back his explanation. He expressed to the country how the bank works due to their lack of knowledge on the industry. He mentioned when you deposit money in a bank, “the bank does not put the money into a safe deposit vault”, but however “the bank puts your money to work to keep the wheels of industry and of agriculture turning around.” The various facts he gives about the government’s endeavours use logos to reason the American people.

He has served as president for longer than any other president in history, serving for three terms instead of the usual two that is generally accepted as the maximum amount of time that a president can serve. The Great Depression was when America's economy crashed. The stock market plummeted because of bull markets and buying on margin witch intern forced banks to close their doors because they had no money to give out because a lot of the deposited money was invested in the market.

This demeanor made many people look up to him as a natural leader that thought things through enough to understand that when he did speak his words would have an impact. Another way that people could see his character was when he was nominated for President. WWII threatened world peace and the Great Depression was actively wearing the U.S. away. Few other times in U.S history required someone of FDR's caliber to lead America through such a storm. His first broadcast was on March 12, 193 During the 1930s, most households owned a radio. Obviously listeners could not actually see him and he was not actually next to a fireplace but listeners really enjoyed it. One listener stated, “it was like the president with his voice, came into your house, calling us friends.”

Imagine what a person could do with one point three trillion dollars. What type of power or affect could this much money have? Sadly, there is not too much of a reason to imagine because millions of Americans are currently trapped underneath a 1.3 trillion-dollar wad of cash. Student loan debt has reached an all-time high, surpassing credit card debt as the leading cause of household debt in the United States. With a sum so large, there are very few people that are unaffected by the havoc that student debt ensues on its helpless subjects.
