Fred Astaire Introduction Fred Astaire, was known most for his dancing but he also sang when he were composing his dances, therefore he was a composer as well for many of his astounding works. He was born on May 10th of 1899 at the hometown of Omaha, Nebraska where he started his birth of interest on dance in “the little white house with a porch with a bit of gingerbread trim” (“The homes where Omaha’s stars got their start”). He was obviously well known for dancing as he worked for companies like RKO known as Radio-Keith-Orpheum and MGM which is known as Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer which were both major film companies that accompanied Fred in his prime years and even later. Austerlitz was an Austrian immigrant and his job was a traveling’s salesman so his wife tagged along. He also had a sister named Adele Astaire, she also had a passion for dancing as well, just like brother and sisters, at a young age of 4 years old he accompanied her sister to ballet school. The next year soon the family moved to New York in 1904 as they debuted on stage after being in performing art school ran by Ned Wayburn. The Astaire’s danced their way into stardom throughout the 1920’s by three main shows which were, “Funny Face”, “Lady, Be Good!” and “The Band Wagon”. Then later on Adele Astaire retired from the show business when Fred Astaire was left alone trying to bring it up by himself. On that same year Astaire tried to escape the reputation of Adele’s brother by doing a screen test with RKO. Since RKO had a doubt in him, they loaned him out to MGM in “Dancing Lady”.
