Slavery has been a grave mistake that has dented our history and has been remembered ever since. Some people have demonstrated acts of leadership and heroism to get slavery to an end. Never did they give up because they have not succeeded but they still gave it their all. Some have given more than others, but all contribute that will get them to end of the goal. People like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass have truly demonstrated of being a person, or abolitionist, that possesses traits like leadership, heroism and dedication. A person who shows these traits would have the courage to not be scared if they are punished for doing a good action. They would show bravery and never be held back by the thoughts of death or even being brandished …show more content…

Frederick Douglass was a slave who was able to read a write and had the opportunity to eat lunch with the current president, Abraham Lincoln. He was able to meet the president and give his insight of what he though about his speech. As soon as Douglass walked into the room, he could feel the emotion of courage the president was giving off, as he stood high like a “mountain pine high above all others.” Douglass was shocked how Abraham Lincoln did not care about not meeting the eager fans outside, but wanted to hear what he thought about what Douglass thought about his speech. “’Though no colored persons had ever ventured to present themselves on such occasions,’ Douglass wrote, ‘it seemed, now that freedom had become the law of the republic, and colored men were mingling their blood with that of white men in one common effect to save the country, that is was not too great an assumption for a colored man to offer his congratulations to the President white those of other citizens” (Freedman 44). This shows how President Lincoln made colored men be more comfortable around those of white men and doing things like fighting in the Civil War. This can show leadership and how he is brave by going to the occasion of the President himself speaking out to public. Not many slaves would be brave enough to do this, but Douglass would be. Douglass, by being brave, would show other slaves
