I went to see the Frederick Symphony Orchestra in Frederick, Maryland on June 12, 2015. The title of their concert was Swashbucklers and Buckaroos. They played a variety of songs, including: “William Tell Overture”, “Praire Night and Celebration”, “Saturday Night Waltz”, “Pirates of the Caribbean”, “Spiderman”, the “Corsaire Overture”, and “Robin Hood”. As I have taken lessons on a few instruments in the past, going to the concert brought back memories of songs and experiences. The instruments that were used in this concert included: violins, violas, cellos, double basses, flutes, oboes, clarinets, bassoons, French horns, trumpets, trombones, tubas, a harp, a piano, and various percussion instruments. Two songs that I thought were outstanding …show more content…

It was composed by Gioachino Rossini in 1829. The rhythm of the song was strong and steady for most of the song, but there were a few places when the rhythm was irregular. The tempo in the song altered between faster and slower in different sections. The texture of the song was homophonic for almost the entire song. There were a couple of short sections where there were two melodies that were played, so this part was polyphonic. The melody was evident throughout the song. I really enjoyed going to the concert because they played a variety of songs that used many instruments. In listening to them play, it reminded me of how much I really enjoyed playing in orchestra. I really liked listening to the symphony play the “William Tell Overture” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.” I had taken piano lessons for about eight years. The main genres that I have played on the piano are classical, hymns, and worship music. When I was younger, I never really like playing classical songs because I thought they were rather slow and boring. However, as I enjoy playing this type of music now, especially songs that are soft and flowing. My piano teacher was very knowledgeable in what she taught, and she was good at teaching me how to play. She helped me to know and memorize scales and chords, which is important in reading music.
I play the viola and was part of elementary and middle school orchestra. In orchestra we played mainly classical songs and modern classical songs. While on the piano I do not mind the slower songs, I liked playing faster songs on the viola. My orchestra teacher was decent. My school district made economic cuts that effected the music department, so he was both the band and orchestra teacher. This made him really busy, and he did not have a lot of time to spend with each student during our section
