What does fate & Fortune mean? There isn’t a specific definition of fate because fate could be described in several different levels . The definition of fortune is when something happens to somebody. For example Tybalt. Fortune is responsible for Tybalt’s death. In Act 3 Scene 1 Immediately after Romeo kills Tybalt in a duel, Romeo declares he is "fortune's fool." This seems to suggest that fate or "fortune" is responsible for Tybalt's death, not Romeo. That would be and example on why Fortune is represented in this play. I already mentioned that fate could be described in several ways. The reason is in Act 1 prologue The Prologue points out that Romeo and Juliet have fate against them. It says that their love is "death-marked," and they have no control over what happens. It is their misfortune that leads to the sorrowful and tragic ending of the play. An Shakespeare sets the two families against each other, and there is nothing Romeo and Juliet can do about the situation. This is foreshadowing to the already destined event these two lovers will soon face death. This is yet another example where fate has a role in the lives of Romeo and Juliet. But Then Romeo learns that Juliet is dead. He says that he goes
