Manipulation is visible throughout The Hunger Games and Truman Show as you watch their feelings and actions being decided and chosen for them. In The Hunger Games the people of each districts are drastically oppressed by the people of the Capitol. The citizens within the districts were manipulated into doing forced labour in order to survive. Without working, people such as Katniss would be starving so in order to get food the Capitol suggests that they can either apply for the tesserae meaning that they can get small amounts of food each month for the price of having a higher chance of getting chosen during the reaping, or to work in harsh conditions to earn very little money but enough to survive, "Freedom has a cost." In 1945, President Truman had to make the most difficult decision of his life. Truman had to decide if the U.S. would drop an atomic bomb on Japan during WWII. He had a way to end the war with Japan, but doing so would unleash the most deadly weapon ever created. The U.S. was 4 years into the war with Japan.
When defending his country, President Truman should make an executive war decision to order the use of an atomic bomb against a Japanese City if the Japanese do not willingly surrender immediately upon request without conditions. He should make this decision due to the Japanese’s incompetence and ignorance when viewing the human rights of their people. During the time of war the Japanese government created a major shortage of food by forcing food producer to make supplies for the military. For instance, the healthy starch crop known as the potato was no longer available to citizens for food, instead the government took the potato’s and used them for aviation gasoline. When defending their homeland the Japanese used inhumane ways of fighting, through the treatment of their soldiers.
“The Possibility of Evil” and “The Truman Show” both explore how humane morals are easily traded for conniving manipulation until it backfires. In “The Possibility of Evil” the protagonist Ms.Strangeworth has absolutely no problem causing problems in other people’s lives when she sends them letters revealing secrets that are being hidden from them. This control she felt was easily done without regret until she got caught and someone attacked one of her prized possessions. In “The Truman Show” Christof feels no sympathy towards the human being he imprisoned in a made up world turned television show until that person finds out his whole life has been a lie. The main character then leaves the show and while he walks into the world, the director loses his entries life’s work.

Since the birth of america, Americans have fought for what they thought was right and to fulfill a dream or their manifest destiny. The birth of television broadcasted around the world in the early 1950’s, when the soldiers from World War Ⅱ where returning. It made its broadway appearances in bars, theaters, and other entertainment studios. With its appearances in public places, it influenced many families to purchase televisions of their own. In the movie The Truman Show, the idea is presented of a world similar to that experienced by Descartes. It shows the qualities that were relevant to Descartes’ development of knowledge and how he proved that the world existed, and how it allowed Truman to find the world around. Once Truman was able to prove that he existed, and that the evil genius did not, he was then able to see Christof in a more dual role as both the Evil Genius and God on his quest to finding out who he truly is. As Plato writes, “Human beings living in a underground den, which has a mouth open towards the light and reaching all along the den; here they have been from their childhood” meaning that literally, people are trapped in a cave.
