In the beginning of chapter 5, the author talks about how the things that revolved around him was school and church. Outside school and church there were the endless street games on 122nd street. The block was safe to play on under the watch of housewives. Plus on page 39, Walter and his friend decided to hang Richard Aisles. Fortunately, the pastor came there and stopped the whole thing.
In the book Empire of the Summer Moon: Quanah Parker and the Rise and Fall of the Comanches, the Most Powerful Indian Tribe in American History by S. C. Gwynne, we learned of two stories that may not be well known in history, but they are very astonishing. One of the stories is about the Comanches, who may not have been well known but they became one of the most powerful Indian tribes in American history. We learn of the rise and fall of their tribe and how they became known for their extreme fighting abilities. The other story told in this book was the story of Cynthia Ann Parker and her son Quanah, who was a half- blood Indian. The Comanches fought with the white settlers to take control of the American west.
In the 19th century, slavery and the Reconstruction was a sore subject for the South. Reconstruction forged civil rights for African-Americans, but once the North’s influenced waned in the South, the South terrorized African-Americans and blocked them from accessing their newfound rights. While Reconstruction may have brought civil rights, those rights were quickly squashed by the South’s racism. Even after certain freedoms were securely gained, every new attempt to make African-Americans equal to the white populace was contested. A large group of people were happy to see slavery ended and civil rights rise.
There were even paramilitary organizations; Brinkley says, “the Red Shirts and White Leagues armed themselves to ‘police’ elections and worked to force all white males to join the democratic party” (368). On the other hand, these organizations worked to keep white men on their side and against the newly freed slave population. As a consequence of the aggressive actions taken, the former slaves’ rights were not properly protected during the Reconstruction
The Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party was founded in 1963 to counter the Mississippi Democratic Party which only allowed participation by whites. The party was developed during the Freedom Summer Hamer and the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, of which Hamer was the vice-chair. In 1964, 40 percent of the population was black, yet they were not allowed to participate in the political system (Bramlett-Solomon 1991, 515). The party registered 60, 000 black voters in the state of Mississippi and after that effort party delegates were sent to the 1964 Democratic Convention.
PLOT SUMMARY AND THEME OF THE NOVEL: Magnus Chase and The Sword of Summer by Rick Riordan is the story of how Magnus Chase, a son of the Norse God Frey, meets his untimely demise at the hands of the fire giant Surt after learning of his heritage. After being revived in the Norse afterlife, Valhalla, Magnus is taken back to the world of the living to fulfil his destiny as being the harbinger of the Wolf. Along the way Magnus meets many mythical creatures including: a talking goat, a deaf elf, and a tall dwarf. In the end Magnus and his new found friends rebind the Wolf Fenris and defeat the fire giant Surt. The Theme of Magnus Chase and The Sword of Summer is that when things are at their worst it can always get better.
The United States changed in more ways than one as a result of the Freedom Summer of 1964. It changed socially as well as politically. The staff and volunteers of the Freedom Summer not only brought awareness to the disenfranchisement of African-Americans in Mississippi, but also to the conditions which plagued Mississippi and its people. The Mississippi Summer Project encouraged many African-American Mississippians to participate in local, state, and national elections. It also helped African-Americans establish a new political party called the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party (MFDP).

The use of the nature imagery of the author in the poem gives a sense of life. For example, by using the bear, the grasshopper, and the grass the author establishes an imagery of nature, These elements are important in the poem because they represent life, a significant word to the meaning of the poem. In addition, the author introduces religion as an insignificant point when being thankful. In line 11, she expresses"I don't know exactly what a prayer is "to emphasizes that religion is not necessary to be thankful for life.
A small group of African-American and white civil rights activists began a series of bus trips throughout the American South on May 4th, 1961 and the years that followed to take a stand and call for change against the racial segregation that was taking place in America at the time. The Freedom Rides were organised by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE), a US civil rights group. The African-American riders set out to test the 1960 decision that segregation of interstate bus terminals was unconstitutional. They also attempted to use 'white-only' restrooms, lunch tables and waiting rooms. It proved to be an extremely dangerous mission, they were met with hatred and violence.
