Freedom Summer took place during the summer of 1964, in Mississippi because at the time that was were the lowest rate of African American voters were, being in 1962 with less than 7% African Americans voting. Congress on Racial Inequality, and Student Violent Coordinating Committees created a drive to create more African American voters. The overall goal of this summer in 1964, was to expand the amount of African American voters in the Sout. Freedom Summer had a significant impact on our daily life today because without this act African Americans would not be able to vote without passing absurd tests that were irrelevant to the government. If segregation was still that strong today, then the government would be almost fully run by Caucasians
