Fate Versus Freewill Most people will ask the question after reading the play The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and the poem ¨Pyramus and Thisbe¨ by Ovid are these lovers stories impacted greater by unkind fate or just plain personal choice. Both of these stories focus on two young lovers who are forbidden to meet by their families and decide to break the rules in order to be together, however this reckless rule breaking eventually leads to both couples untimely deaths. The stories of Romeo and Juliet as well as “Pyramus and Thisbe” were impacted greater by unwise personal choices rather than fate. This evidence is telling us that Juliet is telling Romeo that if he really does like her then marry her the next day. Now this is pure Juliet’s choice she barely met Romeo and as she mentions earlier in the scene that “Her ears had not yet drunk but one hundred words from his lips” yet she decides to rush their love which leads to even more complications driving the story forward. “They decided that that very night they would try to slip away and steal out through the city into the open country where at last they could be together in freedom.”(Paragraph 4). From this we can see that they choose to rush and “slip away that night” without even trying to plan a proper safe place to meet which in the end has a greater impact on the story because if they would have chosen a better place to meet and maybe tried to plan they could have avoided the whole situation that leads to their deaths at the end of the
